Eleven talented Australian Filipino singers battled it out at the World Pinoy Idol Sydney, Australia 2015 event held at Club Burwood RSL on Sunday 28 June 2015.

The Australian leg of the competition was organised by Sydney-based events and entertainment group, Flagcom and friends. The show was live-streamed to an audience of millions of excited fans in the Philippines through Philippine based media network ABS CBN and DZMM Radyo Patrol, the radio arm of ABS-CBN.

The event was a sellout at the Entertainment Dome of Club Burwood RSL with the fans buzzing with excitement wanting to know which two winners would walk way with the dream prize packages including return tickets to the Philippines, USD $1000, a World Pinoy Idol Sydney trophy, ABS CBN giveaways, a chance to score a recording contract and an opportunity to become a TV star in the Philippines.

MC’s for the event included popular Sydney based radio host and publisher of The Australia Filipina Michelle Baltazar and International TV host Ahwel Paz, well known in the Philippines for hosting global events for DZMM including the Global Pinoy Singing Idol. The show opened with the multi talented Filipino Australian performer, Marcus Rivera who introduced the first contestant.

The eleven finalists included Mark Andres, Joanna Camille Banal, Margaret Joyce Poblete, Gabby Escubio, Brian Lorenz, Jasmine Montemayor Henry, Robyn Russell, Chantelle Ann Santos, Chantelle Torres, Elysa Villareal and David Michael White.

The event featured two special guests and popular stars from ABS CBN, Philippine-based celebrities Matteo Guidicelli and Erik Santos, who were flown to Australia especially for this event.

A panel of four judges including Roanne Monte from Miss Saigon London selected the two winners from the Australian Finals, 16 year old Elysa Villareal from Marayong in Sydney’s Western Suburbs who sang “Flash Light” by Jessie J and Brian Lorenz who sang the popular duet between Celine and Andrea Bocelli “The Prayer” which received a rousing applause. Consuelo Jones representing the Philippines Department of Tourism presented the prizes to the excited winners.

Both Elysa and Brian will represent Australia when they compete with other contestants from around the world in the Grand Finals of the Global Pinoy Singing Idol competition to be held in Manila in January 2016.
