Florante De Leon entertained his Filipino fans across Sydney and Melbourne as he performs his folk rock compositions with his mesmerizing voice. His Sydney tour was held at Western Suburbs Leagues Club, Leumeah on the 4th of October 2013 and on the 5th of October 2013 at Tivoli Showroom Rooty Hill RSL.

Florante insisted on having his repertoire solely made up of his own compositions, to show his patriotism to his own culture and country, the Philippines. His songs were filled with heart-felt lyrics, which was inspiring and uplifting to the audience making them reminisce the “Manila sound” during the 70s.

Popular hit songs such as “Si Tatang” (Father), “Ako’y Isang Pinoy” (I Am A Filipino), and his finale song “Handog” (Offering) which was also the theme of the concert were greatly appreciated by the audience. Florante also sang the English version of the song “Handog” wherein even the Australian sound technician in Rooty Hill RSL, Roger found meaningful and amazing.

Filipino artists are renowned to be charming during shows and Florante was exceptional with the way he portrays his sense of humour, you won’t see it coming. The audience participated with his jokes and was delighted.

The Sydney concert in both venues, Leumeah and Rooty Hill was a remarkable experience to all the production team. The local artists did their best in showcasing their talent engaging the audience with their performance. The costumes and presentation on the stage would not be possible without the help of the assigned directors in both venues. Especially the contributions of Jeff Panganiban, who was the director of the Rooty Hill show wherein a new perspective of stage arrangement was seen by the use moving walls, which was very interesting.

Western Sydney Entertainment, producers of Florante said that it was “a very challenging experience” yet it was a learning process. They also said that Melbournians welcomed Florante with open arms. “It was a very, very warm response from the Melbournians”. The producers were thoroughly pleased with the outcome of the tour and gave worthy praise to their supporters, who have always helped them.
