PAPAL NUNCIO ARCHBISHOP ADOLFO TITO YLLANA

Three months after assuming the office of Apostolic (Papal Nuncio) to Australia, Archbishop Adolfo Tito Yllana accepted the invitation of the Australian Devotees of Our Lady of Penafrancia (ADOLP) to be main celebrant in the Pontifical High Mass for the Philippine Community.

The Papal Nuncio is a Filipino, born and raised in Naga City. He is a devotee of Our Lady of Penafrancia. The Pontifical High Mass coincided with the regular 4th Sunday Filipino mass of the Filipino Chaplaincy held at 11:30 am at St Michael’s church South Blacktown.

The liturgical services was handled by the Filipino Chaplaincy, Diocese of Parramatta headed by Fr Ruben Elago, Coordinator of the Filipino Chaplaincy and Deacon Leon (Jun) Decena. The three Bicol groups – the Bicol Communities Leagues Inc (Bicol Inc), the Nuestra Senora de Penafrancia Archdiocese of Sydney (NUSPAS) and the Australian Devotees of Our Lady of Penafrancia (ADOLP) were involved in the planning and implementation. Also the religious organisations in the Diocese of Parramatta contributed to the success of the fellowship thru the effective coordination of Lyn Domingo of the Filipino Chaplaincy Pastoral team.

Before the Pontifical High Mass, the Papal Nuncio met with the clergy and the Filipino Chaplaincy Pastoral team during morning tea at the Filipino Chaplaincy Pastoral House.

The Pontifical High Mass started at 11:30 am with Filipino priests Fr. Ruben Elago, Fr. Lito Layug, Fr. Roy Cabradilla and other Filipino priests as concelebrants with Jun Decena as Deacon and Alex Mendoza and Obet Dionisio as acolytes. The 4th SM team provided the altar servers and the combined choir Ariel were from all Filipino Sunday masses groups, Couples for Christ and ADOLP.

The readers for the mass were from the 4th Sunday Mass Core Group – Marinela Moya and Neil Nepomuceno while those who led in the Prayers of the Faithful were Lyn Domingo ( Filipino Chaplaincy), Arnul Pan ( ADOLP), Elsie Noakes (NUSPAS), Penny Perfecto ( Bicol Inc ) and Evelyn Beed ( President, PCC of NSW).

After communion, representatives from Bicol Inc ( Zena Samar), ADOLP ( Josie Musa) and NUSPAS (Elsie Noakes) offered bouquet of flowers to the Papal Nuncio for offering to Our Lady of Penafrancia.

Then Philippine Consul General to Sydney Anne Jalando-on Louis gave an inspirational speech – today being a proud moment to be a Filipino.

Fellowship followed with food flowing on the 6 food stalls erected outside the Filipino Chaplaincy Pastoral House. Bicol dishes such as Bicol Express, pinangat, kinunot, etc were also being served by the Bicol Groups and Filipino Chaplaincy Pastoral Team. Special welcome cake was donated by Benedith Cakes. Thanks to the religious organisations who donated, served and manned the 6 food stalls.

After lunch, the Papal Nuncio walked around the various food stalls and surroundings of the Filipino Chaplaincy House to meet and have photos taken with him

At 3:00 pm, the Papal Nuncio met the press –both print and radio. The moderator was Neria Soliman who did well in managing the press conference.

Quoting Atty Lolita Farmer who was present in the press conference:

“His Eminence Archbishop Adolfo Yllana has also to be congratulated for his common touch and bond for all those present and handled the conference with smiles and confidence to put the replies in the Catholic views and perspective. He was confident, practical and really his views which I think His Holiness will also say. Factual, hones and real “

It was indeed a Warm Filipino Welcome to the Papal Nuncio
