The Filipiniana Friends Group of Bathurst and the Central West held a fun day in the Parish Hall of St Michael and St John to raise funds for the Cancer Council to help with the ongoing search to improve treatment, care and support of Cancer Survivors and Carers. The event was opened by Mayor Gary Rush who gave a gracious introduction and impressed all with his common touch.
The funds raised were shared with the victims of Typhoon Yolanda, which devastated parts of Leyte in the Philippines, killing and injuring many thousands and destroying their homes and livelihood. The survivors still need much help as homes, farms, fishing boats, schools and hospitals are still being reconstructed.
The event included: a fashion parade, karaoke, raffles, music, dancing, food and fun. Some participants dressed up as their favourite character or in their most glamorous outfits, with prizes for the best dressed and many photo opportunities to make you famous for a day.
Lucky winners on the day were: Most Glamorous Female: Rowena Cajustin from Western Australia. Most Glamorous Male: Tom Poland from Brisbane. These two contestants came far away to support the event. A great time was had by all and participants and sponsors should be applauded for their generosity raised around $1400 which was a very big effort of a small community.
