Editorial by Manny Diel The PHILIPPINE Presidential Race, Which Side Are You?

According to QUORA, the major issues confronting the Philippines include Corruption, Poverty, Inefficiency in Processes, Education System. Some will argue, the Economy, Infrastructures, Tourism, Foreign Relation, Lack of Jobs, Peace and Order. It’s Presidential Election in May 2016 and let us revisit the Presidential Aspirants.
Although there are other Presidential Aspirants, let’s focus on the major contenders :
1. Rodi DUTERTE, 70 years old, a lawyer and a graduate of a Law Degree from San Beda College. He has been the Mayor of Davao for 22 years who lauds his performance in his city as three-time winner in the Outstanding Local Government Unit in a highly urbanised City, tough leader especially on maintaining peace and order . His opts for major reforms including cleaning up corruption, focus on infrastructure projects and promote peace and order. His deputy is Senator Alan Cayetano
2. Grace POE , a 48 years old new politician and her mother and late father are among the most popular movie couples of all time. As a new born, she was abandoned in a church and later adopted by her celebrity parents. She topped the Senatorial elections in 2013 as a neophyte. She faces questions over her citizenship. She, along with her deputy ESCUDERO believe in “Daang Matuwid” (Straight Path). She signed the Senate Blue Ribbon Committee report recommending plunder and graft cases against Binay.
3. Jojimar BINAY, a 72 year old politician, former Human Rights Lawyer, former Mayor of Makati, a strong performer but allegations of corruptions remains his hardest hurdle including the use of dummy businessmen for vast real estate properties. The incumbent Vice- President ,of the Philippines.
4. Miriam Defensor SANTIAGO a 70 year old politician, diagnosed as having stage 4 lung cancer has a reputation as having a sharp tongue, sarcasm and testy demeanor in public stage, Senator. Former Law Professor and trail judge. Her running mate is believed to be Bongbong Marcos
5. Mar ROXAS - a 58 years old Ruling Liberal Party’s bet and Benigno Aquino’s choice.. An investment banker before entering politics has been credited for helping the President become one of the world’s top outsourcing and call centre hubs. Critics blame him for transport woes and widespread crimes that plagued the public when he was at the top of the transport and interior and local government. Leni Robredo is his running mate.
