Preparation for surgery: The main aim for everyone, is to lessen the fears and anxiety of the children before surgery and care for them lovingly. The child is brought into theatre by the parent. Dr Ahmed Al Kadhi Plastic surgeon from New Zealeand with Sung Gun Kim, 7 years old with a left sided cleft lip that will be closed.


The wounds have not yet healed but one can already see the changes that the surgery has brought to the patients of ORH. Through this important surgical procedures the future of these children will be happier!..They will not only look normal but will be able to speak, eat properly and attend school without fear of being ostracized by their peers.

Prior to the discharge of all patients, their parents are exhaustively given instructions on how to care for the wounds to prevent infections. Complicated cases are cared for by local volunteer surgeon Dr. Cherry Librojo.



After the operation.


2016 is Operation Restore Hope International Surgical mission’s 16th year in Manila and was held in Don Manuel Lopez Hospital in Balayan Batangas.

95 patients were screened ...61 were operated on and 94 procedures were done.

Most cases were complicated. Some took over 4 hrs and due to time constraint,some patients were deferred and placed on priority waiting list for the next mission

Thanks to the dedication of 27 ORH International volunteers (specialist surgeons, anaesthetists, nurses, dental surgeons and speech therapist) from N.Z, Germany, Abu Dhabi, UK & Australia headed by Drs Tristan de Chalaine of N.Z & Dr. Christopher Wachsmuth of Germany for coming yearly to help the underprivileged Filipino children afflicted with birth defects and burn constrictures face, a better future.

ASK Foundation headed by Via Hoffmann is the local partner of ORH & is instrumental in making this mission run smoothly. They are responsible in providing all logistics for ORH - recruitment and transporting patients from different towns , securing licences for the foreign participants, financing the screening pre and all post op care.

ASK Foundation directors are Via, Wilma Warta, Ces Modolo, Ver Nemeth, Sokee Wescott, Mila Jalandoni, Salud Ibanez, Ahl Diroy, Annie Morgia & Des Eito.
